Environmental Policy
Introduction
Zest Assure, a trading name of Juicy Media Ltd (registered in England & Wales, company number 05514688, registered office: DiSH, Heron House, 47 Lloyd Street, Manchester, M2 5LN), provides a compliance platform that helps organisations manage ISO 9001, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certification. Although we are a software business rather than a manufacturer, our activities still carry an environmental cost — chiefly the electricity consumed by the cloud infrastructure that runs our platform, the devices our team uses, and the travel we occasionally undertake.
This policy sets out how we manage that impact. We are committed to meeting or exceeding the environmental legislation and regulation that applies to our operations in the United Kingdom, and to reducing our footprint through the practical measures described below.
Our commitment
Juicy Media Ltd commits to the following principles across everything we do:
- Legal compliance. We will comply with all applicable environmental law, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Climate Change Act 2008, the Energy Act 2013 and any legislation that succeeds or supplements them.
- Pollution prevention. We will run our business in a way that prevents pollution, and we will act promptly to correct any practice found to fall short of that standard.
- Efficient use of resources. We favour energy-efficient hardware, keep our operations paperless by design — the Zest Assure platform exists precisely so that evidence, reviews and audit records live digitally rather than in printed files — and select cloud services that are operated efficiently.
- Carbon reduction. We operate remote-first, encourage low-carbon commuting such as public transport and cycling when travel is needed, and choose hosting providers powered by renewable energy. Our targets are set out in our Carbon Reduction Plan.
- Waste reduction. We recycle wherever facilities allow, dispose of end-of-life IT equipment through responsible WEEE channels, and avoid single-use plastics in our workplace.
- Sustainable procurement. When selecting suppliers — from cloud providers to office services — we take their environmental standards and published policies into account.
- Continuous improvement. We set measurable objectives, monitor our performance against them, and report progress as part of our management reviews.
- Employee engagement. Every member of the team is encouraged to contribute ideas for reducing our impact, and is given the resources to act on them.
- Awareness and training. We keep staff informed about environmental issues relevant to their roles, building a culture in which sustainability is a shared responsibility.
- Efficient product engineering. We design and build the Zest Assure platform to be computationally lean — minimising unnecessary processing, storage and data transfer so that the service consumes as little energy as possible per customer.
- Customer and community engagement. We share good practice with our customers, assessors and partners, and support initiatives that promote sustainable ways of working.
Carbon reduction statement
Juicy Media Ltd holds ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certification, and we manage our carbon commitments through the same management systems: objectives are documented, owned, measured and reviewed alongside our quality and information security objectives. Our full plan, including baseline reporting, is published in our Carbon Reduction Plan.
In summary, we commit to:
- improving energy efficiency across our operations and the digital infrastructure behind the Zest Assure platform;
- hosting the platform with providers that run on renewable energy;
- working remote-first and collaborating digitally, so that routine commuting and business travel stay minimal;
- cutting waste through recycling and by consuming fewer resources in the first place;
- engineering efficient software, so that serving each customer requires less compute; and
- monitoring and improving our performance through our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 management systems.
Our measurable goals are:
- to source 100% renewable energy for all hosting and cloud services by 2035; and
- to reduce the waste we produce by at least 20% each year.
Implementation
Responsibility for this policy sits with management, but delivering it depends on the whole team. In practice:
- a designated sustainability lead oversees the policy, tracks our objectives and checks that we remain compliant;
- we operate remote-first, which removes most daily commuting and keeps our office footprint small;
- the Zest Assure platform runs on cloud infrastructure selected in part for its use of renewable energy;
- recycling and responsible disposal arrangements are in place for the waste we do generate, including electronic equipment;
- procurement decisions weigh the environmental credentials of prospective suppliers;
- staff receive regular guidance on environmental matters and on the part they play; and
- environmental considerations are factored into business decisions at every level, from infrastructure choices to day-to-day purchasing.
Review
We review this policy at least once a year, and sooner if legislation, regulation or the shape of our business changes. Updates are communicated to employees and, where relevant, to customers and other stakeholders. This policy is governed by the laws of England & Wales.
